Printable stair measurement checklist
Record the finished floor-to-floor height, available horizontal space and intended width before requesting a stair quote. Label what each measurement describes and flag unfinished surfaces. Use this sheet to communicate the project, not as an installation or compliance approval.

1. Describe the project

2. Record dimensions in millimetres
Finished total rise, measured verticallyAvailable horizontal space, measured in planRequired width and the exact points it measures
☐ Finished surfaces measured ☐ Surface finishes still to be added
Unfinished floor / deck / landing details
3. Add a labelled sketch and photographs
☐ Mark lower and upper levels ☐ Mark the upper landing
☐ Show doors, walls and overhead obstructions
☐ Photograph the top, bottom and side of the proposed position
Landing, support or connection details still to confirm
4. Describe the requested supply

Before ordering: confirm final geometry, material specification, included components, supports, connections and the project's installation requirements.
How to use your measurements
Total rise is a vertical dimension, not the diagonal distance along an existing stair. Horizontal space should describe where the flight can project, with doors, circulation space and landings shown separately. Avoid rounding a measured height to fit the nearest standard option.
If finishes are not yet installed, identify that clearly. A preliminary floor level can change once decking, flooring or other surface layers are fitted. Keep uncertain dimensions labelled as preliminary so they can be resolved before an order is agreed.
Send the sheet with your enquiry
Use the stair calculator for an indicative layout and add it to your quote list. You can also select a standard kit. The site does not charge you or place an order when you request a quote.
The quote form accepts your project notes, not file attachments. Email the completed sheet, drawings or photographs separately to sales@diytimberstairs.com.au, including your quote reference if you have one. Call 03 9720 7266 if you need to explain the measurement points.
For unfamiliar terms, read the stair terminology guide. Keep design, support and site suitability checks with the people responsible for your project. Review your quote request when your information is ready.
